After a little research, I discovered every Friday, Downtown Bistro & Grille offers up $5 "Brown Bag Friday". Love the idea of being able to buy lunch with the coins you scrounge up in the couch or the nooks of your car!
Lets start off with the good: I really, really, appreciated the thick cut slices of peameal bacon. They were über generous with the pork. The caramelized onions and the bacon jam were a perfect combination. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty. In fact, I went to work the next day and recreated this sandwich for staff meal - house made bacon jam included!
The only downside: The soggy bread. You could tell they weren't made to order but instead pre-made and sat under a heat lamp waiting to be picked up. Not cool. I was also expecting more for my $5. If they'd added a bag of chips or a side of coleslaw, there would have been a better perception of value.
Nonetheless, it was a pretty good sandwich so follow them on twitter @dwntwnbistro to find out what todays sandwich is and let me know what you think in the comments! Happy Eating!
