There are two “Foodie” events I’m looking forward to this upcoming week. The first, a cross between Iron Chef & the Amazing Race and the second, a fantastic way to give back to the community while enjoying one of my favourite meal periods.
The hilariously entertaining David Hanley of Dishcrawl Hamilton hosts the first ever, Hamilton Battledish, happening Sunday October 25th. Battledish is an international competition between 60 other chefs in North America looking to be crowned King, or Queen of Battledish.
The Chefs of Locke Street will be creating dishes to compete against each other and Food enthusiasts are invited to come out and vote for your favourite. Here is where the Amazing Race comes in – ticket holders are given a map, a menu, & four hours to walk the “battlegrounds” tasting, sipping and noshing on the splendid culinary creations. Tickets and lots more info can be found here.
The second event is The Power of One: Breakfast Gala in support of Food4Kids on November 1st. Food4Kids is an amazing organization that provides backpacks filled with easy to prepare, non-perishable meals with maximum nutrient value to kids with limited or no food during the weekends.
It’s estimated 1200 Hamilton, 350 Halton and 600 Niagara children rely on Food4Kids programs. The cost per backpack is $10.00 or $400 to feed a child for a year. The program is funded 100% by community donors.
This is a great cause and I look forward to seeing everybody out there. I just bought my ticket today and they are limited so pick them up here.
That’s it for this month – say hi if you catch me at a foodie event!
